I think they've outlived their usefulness. I worked at a company several years ago that had hiring quotas. And, when I asked one of the black guys at work what he thought about the possibility that he was hired because he was black, he said it was an insult, because it implied that he would not have been qualified for the job in the first place. He would much rather know that the reason he got the job was because he was the best person qualified for it, not that he happened to belong to a certain demographic, especially a certain race.
